Making San Francisco Safer

The Mayor’s Office of Violence Prevention Services, founded in 2012, works to make San Francisco safer by leading initiatives that involve multiple departments of city government, community-based organizations, and the private sector.

Coordination

By coordinating city departments and local organizations, we make sure that people impacted by street violence get the support they need.

Street Outreach

Street outreach workers build relationships with a neighborhood, and work with the community there to prevent street violence.

Employment

The Employment Program helps young people in areas with high levels of street violence find
paths to success.

Policy

The Mayor and our office are helping to reform policies around police conduct and responsible gun sales.

The Mayor put this together, but it’s not just a whole bunch of guys in ties...we got ground level people here really trying to make a difference.

Interrupt, Predict, Organize Initiative

Mayor Edwin Lee launched the Interrupt, Predict and Organize (IPO) initiative in 2012 to promote public safety in San Francisco. Our office works to realize the vision set by the IPO initiative.
